There have been every kind of Rumors about the NX since it’s very early announcement. The Rumors have ranged from “Industry leading chips” to “between a Wii U and a PS4”. From cartridge media to digital only. In the end, no one knows what the NX will be until Nintendo itself tells us what it is.
But isn’t it interesting that the NX is getting so much attention? Many “Hard-Core” gamers have said that they have all but written off Nintendo unless they release hardware that is on-par with its competitors as far as power. But they are more than happy to hang off of every word in every rumor about the NX. I think secretly, all gamers are rooting for Nintendo. It’s clear from previous statements that even Nintendo’s competitors insist that the gaming industry would be greatly diminished without Nintendo.
So far, Nintendo has been doing very well keeping their secrets about the NX. No one knows for sure the first thing about the new console. But the time of its reveal seems to be coming soon. The consensus is that the reveal will come within the next month. Nintendo followers are chomping at the bit for any morsel of information about the NX and many are very tired of the conflicting rumors coming out of the industry.
At the moment, the rumors seem to agree that:
- The NX will be primarily a portable device, much like the 3DS, but closer in design to the Wii U Gamepad
- It will connect to your television in some way to work as a traditional console.
- The Power of the NX will be competitive, if not identical to the current versions of the PS4 and Xbox One
- It will very likely use very large capacity cartridges as its physical media, but will likely have the capacity for digital purchases also
And that’s about it. Nothing more is considered to even be a reliable rumor, let alone fact. When is the last time you could say that you know so little about a product that will be launched in the next six months? Nintendo is doing better than Apple with their secrets!
Even some companies are tired of waiting for Nintendo to announce the NX. Developers such as Square Enix, Ubisoft, SEGA, and a few indies have announced that future games will be on the new hardware. SEGA even took it upon themselves to create their own NX logo for their trailers. Unofficial, of course. But for all we know, not even THEY know very much about the NX.
This is the first and probably will be the last article here about the NX before we get concrete information from Nintendo. As in the past, most rumors are useless for gauging interest in a console, let alone the components of the console itself. But like most people, this writer waits at the edge of his seat for the official news from the Big N.
